As a volunteer of OSM Charity, the Messenger to continually deliver “LOVE” and “WISHES” from OSM to the children in Sapiwu, we were happy to join the Christmas and New Year Celebration there from December 24th to 25th.
During the two days, there were some activities carried out in Sapiwu Primary Scholl. They are listed as below:
- Winter Sports Competitions
- The Awarding Ceremony
- Speech by OSM volunteer
- The Christmas and New Year Celebration
In the cold morning, all the students get up early and recite articles and poems in the classroom. The familiar reading resounded in my ears for a long time. It is their childhood, but also my childhood. After breakfast, when Mr. Yang announced “The Winter PE Match is beginning”, all the students were excited.
They showed us their positive sports spirit and also their effort during the games. We shoot the exciting moments aside ,sharing with them their honors and failures, happiness and tears.
Next is the Awarding Ceremony, children are the sun in the morning and they have golden certificates as awardings.We feel so happy for them . With their sweat and wisdom,they do such good jobs. Every teacher and student is well-deserved winners .
After the Awarding Ceremony, It is time for us to give the speech to all students and teachers in the school, telling them : How to improve our study ? What kind of learning methods is better for our study ? What kind of activity needed to join ? How to make a plan in the future ? How to develop our interests? How to deliver our love to the needed? Then we expressed our thanks to OSM Charity and all kind-hearted people, wishing all of them a happy and successful 2009. We also played games with the children: “Questions &Answers” for practicing English, Santa Claus is coming, Dancing, English Song chorus, just name a few.
After the speech, we have a game of “Questions & Answers”. During the game all the participators must speak in English. For Example “What is this in English?” “This is a Snowman. “ Thanks to their former English teacher who introduced them to the world of English and help them experience the happiness of learning English. The students all missed their former English teacher and they sing the song “Happy New Year” to express their thanks.
When Santa Claus came to the hall, the room was boiled. Ha-ha! This is my first time celebrate Christmas with so many children. Firstly Santa Claus told a simple and interesting story of him and sent the Christmas presents to everyone. The sector of Santa Clause made the Children more understanding of English culture and the outside colorful world .Wish they all have a bright future.
All the children from pre-school aged to the students in grade six took part in the celebration in the well-prepared school hall. They gave us many performance such as dancing, Xiao pin, chorus and so on. They are very dedicated. It was a special experience for them.
The experience of joining the celebration made me understand the actual education condition in needy mountainous is so simple and the educational resources is so insufficient. The situation there is beyond my imagination. So we should do more to help the children gain more knowledge and technical ability. Education is an important channel for children live in the mountainous area to step in the city.
Being a volunteer made me value my study and living in the future. I determined to try my best to improve my ability at all sides. In college I should actively take part in the school activities, make more friends and gain more experience. As a beneficiary of OSM’s charity program, I am eager to participate more in the program and help more children. I will be happy to have another chance to serve as a messenger of “LOVE” and “WHISHES”.
